Photo to species
FREESend one image and get a ranked match in a few seconds.
Every core step on Free Plant Identifier stays open: upload a photo, read the species name and confidence, see growing requirements, and check whether the plant is risky for pets. Nothing below is locked behind a trial clock.

A score so a weak answer is visibly weaker than a strong one.
Light, water, humidity, and temperature after every identification.
Curated profiles with galleries when you want more than a name.
Many store apps advertise a free download, then meter identifications — one free ID a day, or a short trial — before asking roughly thirty to forty dollars a year. A browser tool has a different cost shape: you pay nothing and install nothing, but you need a connection. That trade-off is the whole comparison.

Not for the plants most people photograph. Accuracy tracks photo quality and how common the species is in training data — not whether a checkout page ran first. Clear shots of garden plants, houseplants, flowers, and ordinary weeds land in the same confidence band you would expect from a paid competitor.
Where paid apps sometimes pull ahead is coverage of obscure regional taxa and offline field use. If your work is remote survey of rare flora, download something before you leave reception. If you are naming a plant on a windowsill, the free browser path is enough.
A free account carries your past IDs between phone and laptop. Guests can identify without one.
Batch runs or deeper analytics may appear later as optional add-ons — never as a gate on single-photo ID.
For gardeners, homeowners, and walkers who want a name, care notes, and pet safety, the free tier covers the job end to end.

Yes. Core identification, care notes, toxicity info, and encyclopedia browsing do not require payment, a trial period, or a forced upgrade.
No. Guests can identify plants. An account only exists so your history can follow you across devices.
Normal use is not capped by a "one free ID per day" wall. Extreme automated traffic may be rate-limited to keep the service healthy.
It is a lean independent project: cheap infrastructure, no app-store cut, and optional community support from people who find it useful.
